Shalom & Welcome to the
Temple of Israel of Dunmore Today
Temple of Israel of Dunmore, located on the corner of Truman Avenue and E. Drinkier Street, whose construction was completed in 1925, is Lackawanna County's oldest orthodox synagogue, still located in its original building. And although the Area's Jewish population has been steadily declining, because of the loyalty of its membership, and the dedication of its President, Isadore Steckel, (Temnple president for the past 57 years, which may be a world record) the Temple of Israel Congregation continues to have minyan every Shabbos morning. Services, on Shabbos, begin with opening prayers at 7:30 AM and are generally concluded before 9:30 AM, with a kiddush, complete with bagels, herring, cream cheese, pastries, coffee, juice, wine, schnops and, quite often, Nova Scotia lox.

Because Temple of Israel has no rabbi, the members of the congregation share the responsibility of leading the service--an orthodox service. And except for a brief discussion (dvar Torah) of the week's parsha, conducted in English, the service is chanted mostly in Hebrew. If you are looking for a service where the spirit of Judaism flourishes, in a uniquely special atmosphere, then please, join our minyan, any Shabbos morning.

Temple of Israel of Dumore is a congregation affiliated with
