THE LETTER
The following letter was sent on Labor Day to Eric Stillman,
Executive Director, Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans:
Eric:
The Jewish Federation of Northeastern Pennsylvania (based in Scranton) has launched a Special Appeal for money, temporary accommodations (here and in their second homes in Florida) and jobs for displaced Jewish persons and even for students. We already have offers to accommodate them and even job opportunities. More are expected.
Would it be possible to furnish me with any details as to names and numbers of Jewish persons to be accomodated (singles, family size including ages, any special kashruth requirements, job preferences if looking for temporary work here, etc.)?
If UJC cannot pay for transportation to our region, then we will, or we'll arrange for it. Let me know if and when you know. That's why we're here.
When things settle down, I will forwarded 100% of all funds collected from our region directly to you for rebuilding your community.
If the situation was reversed, I know you'd do the same for us.
Thanks,
Mark Silverberg, Executive Director
