Dear Friends:
When our grandparents were alive, they didnıt have much, but somehow there was always enough for one more person at the table or for a friend in need. Whatever they had (and it wasnıt much) they shared. And because they understood the meaning of tzedakah, they gave what they could when asked to do so for no other reason than it was simply ³the right thing to do.²
We often say that life was much simpler back then, and perhaps, in some ways, it was. But the problems they faced are still with us. The world may have changed, but the causes in which they believed have not. The Jewish needy are still among us as are the troubled, the grieving and the imperiled, and they have no where else to turn, except to us.
Somehow, our grandparents
found a way to educate their children even when there was barely enough food to
feed themselves. Somehow, they found a way to care for their aging parents
despite the great financial burden it must have been. And yet, somehow, they
survived to lay the foundations for our generation to prosper and share in the
American dream.
When Israel was established,
they cried not only with tears of joy and thanks, but for the millions who
perished because there was no Jewish State to accept them.
Your grandparents may not
be here anymore, but the causes in which they believed still are.
Now, itıs our turn.
Letıs make it countfor ourselves, for our children, for Israel, forever.
